Grief & Loss

We all have experienced grief and loss at some point in our lives, but we live in a society where we are quickly supposed to ‘get on with life,’ and where we are not given the understanding, time or space that every person needs.

I understand that dealing with a loss is experienced differently depending on the age, gender, culture and religious beliefs of the person. The need to express how you feel at this moment of grief is a vital part of your healing process.

At Indalo, you will find the safe, private space that you need, and during our sessions, I will accompany you in this journey of love, acceptance and the finding of a new meaningful life.

LGBTIQA

Have you experienced social rejection, verbal and/or physical bullying? YOU ARE NOT ALONE…

Some mental health concerns for LGBTIQA people include:

  • coping with discrimination and oppression,
  • coming out to one’s family
  • sorting out an “authentic” sense of self in the face of social expectations and pressures
  • further discrimination with regards to housing, employment, education, and basic human rights.

All of the above, can lead to higher levels of depression, anxiety, substance abuse and other concerns.

At Indalo we will listen to you in a non-judgemental way and accompany you through this journey of self-exploration that will help you to build your confidence in order to tell the world WHO YOU REALLY ARE.

New Life For Migrants

Loss does not only refer to the loss of a loved one, whether you are a recent migrant to Australia or migrated years ago, the chances are that you grieve your loss every day.

If you are experiencing feelings such as emptiness, anger or depression it might be a sign telling you to deal with some past issues that keep resurfacing from your subconscious mind. By bringing them to the surface and exploring the loss that you have experienced (eg: loss of identity, culture, family and customs that you were raised with in your home country), you will be able to accept them and deal with them in a healthy way.

At Indalo we offer a bilingual Spanish/English counselling service because we understand that feelings are better expressed in your mother language.

Youth Issues

At times, life can be hard for any of us, especially if you are a sensitive person who is affected by what other people might think or say about you.

Do you find really hard to even get up in the morning and face going to school or college? Do you feel misunderstood by your family or your peers?

if you are struggling with gender identity, body image, stress, substance abuse, depression or anxiety, I offer you a safe space where you will be able to be yourself with someone who is unbiased and non-judgemental, SOMEONE WHO ACCEPTS YOU AS YOU ARE.

Stages of Life

Adaptation to adulthood: adaptation to university life, independence.

Becoming a new parent: post-natal depression, confusion, feeling misunderstood.

Middle-age challenges: divorce, empty nest.

Old age challenges: depression, isolation, illness.

Counselling can be an invaluable tool in helping someone grow in the face of life challenges and help them change for the better.

Disability

Aproximately one in five people in NSW have some form of disability (Disability Action Plan 2012).

Research has shown that, more often than not, it is the client’s lack of control over their physical and social environment, and not the impairment itself, that causes emotional difficulties. Through counselling, you will be able to achieve a sense of self-empowerment in practical, emotional and social areas.
